Some of the edges to the path may look a bit scruffy this time of year, when spring and summer come around all the path edges should have grown up.

Bunker renovation on 4th 17/2/15

(Ben Millson Assistant Greenkeeper)

Sunny spells in the afternoon gave us a chance to get out and start work on the 4th, we are preparing the bunker bases for rubber crumb to be laid down to stop contamination from any organic matter or stones. Wacker plating the bunker bases will give a smoother surface when laying the rubber crumb.

14th to 15th path renovation 17/2/15

(John Quinn Deputy Course Manager, Ben Millson Assistant Greenkeeper & Henry Connolly Assistant Greenkeeper)

First side of 14th to 15th path has been completed. This time we used thicker and longer boarding set deeper and filled to the top with path material, giving better access to the 15th and more aesthetically pleasing on the eye.

(Ben Millson Assistant Greenkeeper & Tom Parker Apprentice)

14th to 15th path is now 95% complete all boards are now in, a scattering of path material needs to be thrown down and wacker platted for the final accomplished look.

Final complete photo to come...........

Winter slitting and rolling the greens 11/02/15

(Ben millson assistant greenkeeper & Joshua mccallum first assistant)

Slitting: The slitting aeration technique (using triangular blades to create lots of short, narrow, close slits) is particularly useful in the winter come spring. To help "connect" the surface of the soil with the underlying drainage layers, though it has shortcomings in its ability to solve compaction problems. Also, because of a slitting machines light weight, it can be used during periods of long cold and showery spells, when other types of aerification are not possible.
